aspire

[uh-spahyuh r]
verb (used without object)aspired, aspiring.
1. to long, aim, or seek ambitiously; be eagerly desirous, especially for something great or of high value

Seeking to be a writer is an interesting way of looking at the world. In once sense, you could seek for that one particular goal of having a book published, or being about to write as a way to pay the bills. The thing is, there are a lot of artists out there who say that they're aspiring to be an artist purely because they don't have that little goal filled in their mind.

If you want to be a doctor, you're aspiring to be a doctor because you can't just state to people you are a doctor and then proceed to poke needles directly into their face. However, if you want to be an artist, an author, or photographer, the best thing about the modern world is that there are thousands of supplies out there for you to do whatever you want. People want to support those with dreams and if you say you're an aspiring writer, then you're a writer.

What you want to be and a goal should be separate. You are a writer, but you're aspiring to the goal. There's no reason to make yourself feel like you're not as important as C.S. Lewis or J.K. Rowling or Stephanie Meyer.

(Plus, if you're a writer than you can reassure yourself when you think about how if writers like you didn't exist, than our society as you know it wouldn't exist. Bullet; Red Who would have written the bible? Bullet; Orange Who would have written the ancient hieroglyphics? Bullet; Yellow Who would have written your favourite novel?)

“Dreaming about being an actress is more exciting than being one.”
― Marilyn Monroe

When I was younger I was worried about the idea of the job market. The news is always advertising there is a shortage of one job or another and it got me thinking: Was I, as a citizen, suppose to fill in these jobs so my country could thrive on one more person with a job they don't really enjoy? After all, what could a musician or an artist really impact in the grande scheme of life, the universe and everything? The thing was, I then learned that there are real people in the world who want to be doctors. Just like people tell artists they'll be out on the streets in months from such a pointless job, I wasn't able to comprehend with my personality how I would be compatible.

You can be whatever you want and there's always a way to make it work. If you want to write, then take a moment to reflect on the books you've read. Fiction like Harry Potter, or non-fiction like Captain of the Queens, there was always an accomplishment. You should always press on what financially will allow you to eat and clothe yourself every day, but remember that you can do anything, especially when you live in the age of the internet, which can bring amazing opportunities.

Bullet; Red Think of this: You don't need to have a publisher decline you ten times. You can self publish through companies like Amazon.
Bullet; Orange Think of this: DeviantART, Wattpad, Nanowrimo, Goodreads, Fanfiction and Fictionpress all offer the ability to share your work.
Bullet; Yellow Think of this: You can talk to real life authors online your questions of how to be successful in the business.
    Bullet; Green
Think of this: There are many stores around the world which will print books in-store. You can distribute yourself!

“I have advice for people who want to write. I don't care whether they're 5 or 500. There are three things that are important: First, if you want to write, you need to keep an honest, unpublishable journal that nobody reads, nobody but you. Where you just put down what you think about life, what you think about things, what you think is fair and what you think is unfair. And second, you need to read. You can't be a writer if you're not a reader. It's the great writers who teach us how to write. The third thing is to write. Just write a little bit every day. Even if it's for only half an hour — write, write, write.”
― Madeleine L'Engle

List off on a piece of paper what you are. You are a writer. You're a writer with a goal to do __________. You're a writer who wants to be published by _________. You're a writer who wants to write a __________. You're a musician, an artist, a photographer, the Egyptian writing hieroglyphics or whatever you want to say you are. If you want to tell everyone you're a doctor, then get a copy of Frankenstein and start terrorizing Europe with your crazy zombies. (Maybe don't do that. Go to medical school before you say you're a doctor.)

Separate what you are from a goal for that side of yourself. If you're always aspiring to be creative than you'll never feel truly accomplished. It's good to feel accomplished to the best of your ability. You're a writer who has aspiring to finish a story. You're a writer who has aspired to read through this article. You're a writer who aspires to be happy. Be happy; it's the best thing to be. :dummy:

If you're curious about where the world is going and what sort of effects new technology is having, check out "Abundance: The Future Is Better Than You Thinkby Peter H. Diamandis and Steven Kotler. It's a really good read for those of you wondering what positive impacts are going on around you and how you doing whatever makes you happy will boost change, support and all around a whole pile of squishy--and just a little bit sweaty--hugs.

"Since the dawn of humanity, a privileged few have lived in stark contrast to the hardscrabble majority. Conventional wisdom says this gap cannot be closed. But it is closing fast. The authors document how four forces exponential technologies, the DIY innovator, the Technophilanthropist, and the Rising Billion are conspiring to solve our biggest problems. Abundance establishes hard targets for change and lays out a strategic road map for governments, industry and entrepreneurs, giving us plenty of reason for optimism."

Happy writing,
